Millipore Scientist Awarded Citation by American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
For Immediate Release: November 18, 2008
Billerica, Mass.— Ronald Bowsher, Ph.D., of Millipore was presented today with a Presidential Citation by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) during the opening session of the association's 2008 annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Bowsher is Chief Scientist for Biopharma Services at Millipore.
The award was given to Dr. Bowsher in recognition of his leadership in developing a highly successful training program for AAPS members in the important field of ligand binding immunoassays, which have had a major impact on biomedical research and clinical diagnosis. Dr. Bowsher was nominated for the award by AAPS President Karen Habucky, Ph.D. She also presented him with the award.
“Dr. Bowsher has been a longtime and valued member of AAPS, contributing to our organization in myriad ways. He is most certainly deserving of this prestigious distinction,” said John Lisack, Jr., CAE, Executive Director of AAPS.
Ligand binding assays play an important role in diagnostics and drug development. The assays incorporate a specific antigen or antibody that binds to an analyte. The antibody is linked to a radioisotope, enzyme, or fluorescent compound, which allows the bound antigen to be identified and quantified.
The two-day ligand binding training program was first given in 2006. It has since been given in several venues over the years. Hundreds of scientists have completed the course. Plans are to continue evolving the course to keep it current with the latest developments in the field of immunoassay testing
The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists is a professional, scientific society of more than 13,500 members employed in academia, industry, government, and other research institutes worldwide. Founded in 1986, AAPS provides an international forum for the exchange of knowledge among scientists to enhance their contributions to public health.
